Custom Portal & Dashboard Development FAQ
One surface,every role
Straight answers on scope, pricing, timelines, and the secure operating surface you walk away with.
What is custom portal and dashboard development?
It is building a role-aware web surface where customers, clients, internal teams, and leadership each log in and see only the data and actions their role allows. At MarkAge360 we deliver client and customer portals, admin dashboards, and internal dashboards as one system — with role-based access control, single sign-on, live data views pulled from your systems of record, and an audit trail. The result is one governed operating surface, not a generic admin panel that hands everyone the same view.
How much does a custom portal or dashboard cost?
Pricing is scoped to the role model, the number of systems we integrate, and how much of the surface is bespoke versus standard. A focused single-role dashboard built on existing APIs costs far less than a multi-role portal with SSO, granular permissions, and several live integrations. We give a fixed quote after the Map phase, where we agree the roles, data contract, and permissions matrix — so you are pricing a defined build, not an open-ended one.
How long does it take to build?
A first usable version of a scoped portal or dashboard typically ships in a handful of weeks, with multi-role portals and deeper integrations taking longer. We work in three phases — Map the roles and data, Architect the surface and every state, then Build and operate live — and release in increments so you see a working surface early rather than waiting for one big reveal. The integration and access-control work, not the visuals, usually drives the timeline.
Do I need a custom portal, or will an off-the-shelf tool do?
Off-the-shelf dashboards are a fine fit when your data lives in one place and everyone can see the same thing. You need a custom portal when different roles must see different scoped data, when you are stitching several systems into one view, or when access has to be governed and provable — for example a client seeing only their own account. We are honest about this in the Map phase; if a configured tool covers it, we will tell you rather than over-build.
How do you handle authentication, permissions, and data security?
Access control is a design input from day one, not a bolt-on at the end. We define a permissions matrix up front, then enforce it server-side with role-based and attribute-based access control, so every role opens the smallest useful view. We support single sign-on through SAML and providers like Okta, Google, and Microsoft 365, and we log every privileged action to an audit trail — so who did what, and when, is provable after the fact.
Can it connect to our existing systems and live data?
Yes — that is usually the point. We integrate your CRM, billing, databases, and other systems of record so the portal shows live data instead of stale exports, and we define a single metrics layer so every dashboard reports the same number, defined once. Where a system has no clean API, we build the back-end and integration layer to bridge it. You get one surface that reflects the source systems, not another silo to keep in sync by hand.
