Clifford Harris & Co Solicitors

A West End law firm, rebuilt for how clients choose a solicitor.

Clifford Harris & Co has practised from the same corner of London's West End since 1957. Partner-led, boutique, with clients who have stayed for generations. Online, none of that came across. We rebuilt the firm's digital presence around the way people actually shortlist a solicitor: quickly, privately, and long before they pick up the phone.

01 / Challenge

Every credential the firm had, except online.

A practice built on referral and reputation, now meeting most of its new clients for the first time on a screen.

Clifford Harris & Co is the kind of firm that rarely had to explain itself. Founded in 1957, partner-led from the first meeting to the last, with families and businesses that have stayed with it for decades. That reputation travelled by introduction, and for a long time it did not need to travel any other way. It does now. A company director weighing up firms for a shareholder dispute, or a family dealing with probate, starts on a search engine and forms a view in well under a minute. The website had to carry what a partner would have conveyed across a desk, and it had to do it for seven distinct practice areas, each with a different reader arriving in a different state of mind.

  • Boutique firms compete for search visibility against national brands and directory aggregators running far larger content operations.
  • Seven practice areas, from property and corporate through to insolvency and private client, each speaking to a different audience with different urgency.
  • Legal enquiries are sensitive. The route from reading to making contact has to feel discreet rather than transactional.

Clifford Harris & Co Solicitors

A boutique firm cannot out-shout the national brands, and it should not try. Its advantage is that a partner answers the phone. The website's job is to make that advantage obvious before anyone calls.

02 / Approach

Seven practice areas. One clear route in.

01

A brand expression that matched the room

We took the firm's existing identity and gave it somewhere to live. A restrained palette drawn from the mark, a serif voice for headlines that reads as considered rather than corporate, and generous space around everything. The look had to sit comfortably alongside a Marylebone address and still hold up on a phone at midnight.

02

Structure built around how clients arrive

The seven principal areas of practice sit together on a single page, each one opening in place rather than sending the reader away to another page and back. Property and real estate, commercial and corporate, litigation and dispute resolution, property litigation, restructuring and insolvency, private client and employment can be taken in as a set in seconds, then read properly without anyone losing their place. The navigation stays deliberately small: four ways in, no dropdown maze.

03

Copy written in the partners' voice

We wrote the site with the partners rather than about them. Plain English, no filler credentials, no stock legal posturing. Where the firm's real difference is that it is boutique and always partner-led, the copy says so directly and then proves it in how patiently it explains things.

04

Search foundations built in, not bolted on

Page titles and descriptions written for the searches that matter to a West End firm, a correct heading structure, clean URLs across the site, fast-loading pages, and location signals that place the practice where it actually is. The technical work happened during the build, so nothing had to be retrofitted after launch.

05

A discreet route to enquiry

Contact stays present on every page without chasing the reader. One address, one number, one email, and a short enquiry form that does not interrogate anybody before they have decided to get in touch. For legal work, restraint earns more contact than urgency does.

03 / Outcome

A site that sounds like the partners.

Clifford Harris & Co now has a digital presence that matches the practice behind it. A visitor lands on a site that looks like the firm, reads like the partners, and reaches the right area of practice in a single move. The seven areas read as a set and open in place, so someone can size up the whole practice and then go deep on one without losing their place. The heritage is stated once, quietly, where it belongs, and the rest of the page gets on with being useful. Underneath, the site runs on foundations the firm can keep building on: a clean structure, search-ready pages, and room for the practice areas to grow their own depth of content whenever the firm chooses to invest in it.
